Artificial intelligence systems can play a highly relevant role in the educational field; for example, they can contribute to designing criteria for scoring in procedures for allocating school places (a provision contained in the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act) or create alert systems that identify where potential school segregation may be occurring or being favored. They could also help determine, through the analysis of objective data, which school allocation models are best aligned with the values of fairness, equality and non-segregation. This paper analyses, from a scientific research perspective, the need to be able to access data from educational administrations in order to contribute to this development by relating the real difficulties that we have encountered in this process; a process in which public information has been requested from several educational administrations for scientific research purposes in this area, while simultaneously describing and reporting the obstacles that we have faced.
